What wagon?

Hello reader(s)! It's been several days since my last post. Sorry! I was half-hanging off the wagon. I was eating things I should not have been eating, i.e. Chinese food. But I'm still walking and working out. There are no excuses, but I did start back to school this week and work has been busy. So I suppose it was just stress eating. Either way, I'm still dedicated to my goal. I'm back on the wagon and tonight I'll resume my postings.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Raw Fish?

Yes, I know! I haven't blogged in a few days. I'm terrible. The last couple days of the week were "normal". I'll give you a run down of Saturday.

8:25am - walked two miles in neighborhood

9:40am - gym workout

At the gym I did my usual workout with about the same weights and reps. I did add some weight to the lower back machine...total 100lbs. I didn't feel like I was getting anything out of it. So I added some weight, then it felt like I was really using the machine correctly. I also added a new exercise to the workout. The machine for pectorals...if you sit on it opposite, it works the rear deltoids. That one was tough. But I did 3 sets, 10 reps, 24lbs. My muscles are talking to me this morning. I guess that means I had a good workout?

10:50am - steak and eggs with papas rancheras and refried beans (I was hungry!)

2:45pm - baked chicken breast and fruit salad from Bill Millers

7:45pm - Thai Lao Orchid...I tried some different types of sushi (and cooked sushi?)...they were all good...and I had a bowl of their clear noodle soup with chicken...yummy!

Today my goal is to achieve some organization and REST. I start school tomorrow, and unfortunately my Mondays will be LONG! So if I can, I'll have a lazy Sunday. We'll see.

Sooo...I don't miss soda as much as I used to. The 'shakes' have finally subsided. I think I've gotten to the point where, even if I do have it, I don't drink much of it at all.

I do, however, miss ice cream. I had a milk shake over the weekend...but I've been thinking about having more ever since. It hasn't gotten to the point where NEED it...or to where I've gone to the store to get it. Too tired to go to store. LOL

Good night!

Friday? It's finally here!

Hello! I finally made it through the end of the week. My walking and workouts have been off this week due to lack of sleep and school. Sheesh! But tomorrow, we're starting bright and early for a walk and maybe the gym. Here's the low down for today...

9:30am - protein shake
1:15pm - poorboy, half bun, lean meat, fruit salad
7:45pm - grilled chicken salad, about a tbsp of ranch dressing, two crackers

So here's the thing. I don't have a real scale. But we do have Wii Fit. On the 10th, this past Sunday, I weighed 256. Today I weigh 254. I supposed if I use my Wii Fit to keep my stats, that would be consistent. Otherwise, maybe over the weekend, I'll buy a scale.

I'll check in with you all again tomorrow! Have a great night! Now that's school's over, I feel re-energized! Yea!

Bad Day

Hello again! Quick run down for Thursday, Aug. 14th. Not the best day thus far.

8:30am - oatmeal
2:00pm - whataburger double meat, single cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles (no mayo)
3:00pm - one chocolate brownie (co-worker b0day)
7:45pm - about an ounce of chicken salad and, maybe, a quarter of a kaiser roll

Busy, stressful day. Not much appetite. Once my last final is over, I'll be so happy. Maybe. Anyway, the point is that I'm not on track and I need to get back on.

Before I hit the sack tonight, I'll write about today. Cool? Cool.

We didn't walk this morning because I didn't sleep well. I'm going to try to hit the sack early...maybe...

Shorts!

Well, it's Sunday evening. We had a nice, but busy weekend. There were a few tense moments, but we made it through.

We agreed to tell ALL, right? Ok, just checking. I was very disappointed that I have not lost a single pound in the past week. I was hoping for at least a one pound lost...but to no avail.

I worked out today for the first time at our local gym, Heavyweight Gym & Aerobics. After my workout, on the way out, I stopped at the scale. Dag nabit! Same weight. I was stumped. My only excuse is that my monthly visitor is in town. Other than that, I have no idea. *sad*

10:45am - (breakfast with the in-laws) 2 scrambled eggs with a little white cheese, two small pork chops, a couple of potato slices, two spoonfuls of refried beans
2:00pm - cheese stick
3:00pm - low fat drinkable mixed berry yogurt

4-4:50pm -- workout at the gym
elliptical trainer, 2 mins (LOL)
overhead press, 10lbs, 3 sets of 10 reps
leg press, 60lbs, 3 sets of 12 reps
rotary torso, 40lbs, 2 set of 10 reps for each side (left, then right)
chest press, 3 sets of 10 reps
abdominal, 2 sets of 10 reps at 40 lbs, 2 sets of 10 reps at 60lbs
angle leg lift, 24lbs, 2 sets of 10 reps
angle calf lift, 24lbs, 2 sets of 10 reps
lying down leg press(?), 60lbs, 3 sets of 10 reps
lower back lift, 40lbs, 3 sets of 10 reps
pectoral, 24lbs, 3 sets of 10 reps

5:15pm - about 2oz of chicken salad
6:45pm - chicken breast, very small baked potato, cut green beans (fresh)

Okay, here's my plan for this week. There is a handy book that Manuel bought some time back called, "The Calorie King: Calorie Fat & Carbohydrate Counter." I'd like to start to incorporate numbers to my meal plan. This way I can know what my intake is. Even though I think I'm going to come in way below these numbers, this is what I've chosen. If I do come in below these numbers, then next week I'll move down to the 1500 calorie chart.

1800 cals & 50g of fat = 25% fat calorie intake
1800 cals & 210g of carbs - 47% carb calorie intake

Now. Here are the 5k's I've decided to participate in...for 2008.

Friday!

Yea! The weekend is here!

So far, so good. I've had (all things considered) a solid five days of living a healthy lifestyle. This weekend I hope to decide what will be the first 5k I think I can attend. I think there's one in October and one in November. I need to decide soon so I can amp up my walking and workouts.

Earlier this evening we joined a neighborhood gym. It's pretty basic. It's got what we need. And it's very affordable. I'll let you know how it goes!

7:55am - oatmeal with strawberries and a banana
11:30am - drinkable low fat yogurt and cheese stick
1:00pm - chicken salad with whole medium avocado, cucumber and tomato salad with WishBone Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Spritzer
6:40pm - Jello cup
7:45pm - (Spaghetti Warehouse) Meat Ravioli, Sauce on the side, Bowl of wedding soup

Thanks to everyone that has been reading and posting! Your comments and encouragement are greatly appreciated! Have a great night!

Chicken, Chicken, Chicken

Hello readers! Is it me or has it been a long and busy week? I've been looking forward to Friday as though it were New Year's or something. LOL!

Okay, so this morning was a rest morning. I overslept and barely made it to work in time to make my breakfast and inhale it.

7:50am - oatmeal with strawberries and a banana
11:00am - Kashi trail mix granola bar
1:55pm - chicken breast, white rice, small avocado
6:45pm - chicken breast with onions and mushrooms simmered in a thin chicken gravy, mashed potatoes, organic green beans

I didn't have time for very many snacks today. It was a busy afternoon. I'm already hungry again, but I'm going to have a Jello cup before bed.

I hope to make a workout guide over the weekend. At least for the next week or two. This way my days are (somewhat) planned ahead.

Good night! If you're reading this on Friday, Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!

Charro Beans!

Hello World! Apologies up front for not posting last night. We visited a family member who'd just had surgery and it turned into a long night. No worries though; said family member is doing very well! Let me say by the way, that said family member is extremely tough and courageous. He was being a real trooper! GET WELL SOON!

Okay, so yesterday was a walking morning. We did our one mile with the doggies. I think they enjoy it very much. By the time Manuel left for work, they were zonked out! (Must be nice...)

In addition, Manuel and I got in a lot of walking at night from the parking garage at the hospital to the actual room number for the family member we were visiting. We went back and forth a couple times. By my estimates, low-balling it, I'd say it was at least one mile. Hence, getting home late and catching some immediate zzzz's.

By the way, before I list my meals/snacks from yesterday...I want to say that Tuesday night after I posted my blog, I was hungry again, so I had a Jello cup at about 9:40pm.

7:00am - 2 scrambled eggs with ham, 2 slices of 'diet' bread
9:50am - drinkable low fat yogurt and cheese stick1:15pm - chicken breast, white rice, a few left over snap peas, half avocado
4:45pm - small red apple
5:05pm - protein drink
6:45pm - (ate out due to hospital visit); 6-8oz of beef fajitas, one serving of mexican rice, two spoons of charro beans, one corn tortilla, one flour tortilla, handful of corn chips

Alright! So I've made it through the majority of the week. I'm already missing a lot of the junk food fuel I used to pump into my body... But that's okay. I think I'll live. *sigh* *smile*

Have a great day!

Hola!

Hola! It's almost the end of day 2 of my new adventure. Today was a rest day, so no walking this morning. Good thing, because I had trouble sleeping. But tomorrow, up with the roosters again. So far, Asics are comfy. Here's the meal plan I followed today.

8:00am - oatmeal with banana and strawberries
10:30am - low fat drinkable yogurt
1:00pm - chicken breast, white rice, half avocado, small roma tomato
3:45pm - protein drink (half)
6:45pm - two 4oz pork loin chops, wild rice, sugar snap peas

Only two general complaints. One...it seems like I'm always hungry. Its manageable as long as I have my healthy snacks around. Two...I'm exhausted by the time I get home. I'm going to try to go to bed earlier tonight. And since I'd completely cut out caffeine for the past few days, I thought that might be it. I'd been sticking mostly to water and juice. So maybe tomorrow I'll have some tea.

Okie dokie...I'll write more tomorrow. Nighty nite!

Introductions

Hello! I guess I should take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about me. I'm currently 30 years old. I am healthy, but overweight. I do know and understand that if I remain in my current state, it can have serious affects on my long-term health.

I don't do well with gyms. I sign up for memberships, but spend little time actually working out. I don't take "diets" seriously because I love food. So about a week ago, I decided that setting a goal to lose weight just isn't realistic for me. Instead I decided to set a higher goal, where losing weight and taking control of my fitness was just a side effect. I've always been a terrible athlete. I wanted to pick a goal that was totally outside of my realm, but still interesting. Finally, I realized I'd always wanted to finish a race of some sort. So why not train to walk a 5k?!?

Immediately, I took off with the idea. I got a meal plan from a friend of a friend and re-shaped it to my likes and lifestyle. (I love food remember? LOL) I also browsed the internet for any info I could find on training for such an event and am adjusting it for my capabilities. I tried on at least nine pairs of shoes before finding the right shoe for my foot and training needs. I chose the Asics Running shoe, style TN863 GEL 1130. I'll let you know how they work out.

So, I've decided to blog my progress for this training. I'm going to put it ALL out there. You are welcome to join me. Feel free to offer some pointers, ask questions, or share your own experiences. My hope is to have some accountability for this quest which will allow me to stay on track.

Here goes...

Monday, Aug 4, 2008
Weight: approx 265lbs

This morning Manuel and I woke up at 5:15am. We got ourselves and the dogs ready for our first walk. We did 1 mile in our neighborhood. The dogs really enjoyed their exercise and I survived!

6:45am - 3 scrambled eggs and a drinkable fat free yogurt
9:50am - Kashi Trail Mix granola bar
1:20pm - Bowl of Healthy Choice Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle Soup and Jello
3:00pm - 8 almonds
5:15pm - Metamucil fiber wafers
6:45pm - Chicken breast, wild rice, and carrots

Slowly but surely I hope to get into my own groove, but I have a feeling these first few days are going to be trial and error.

Okay, it's late and I've bored you enough. Almost bed time! See you all tomorrow!
